Tything Barn - 2001

Tything Barn - 2001

This was our first summer holiday in our touring caravan. On the way down we stopped at the Caravan Club site near Pembrey Country Park - see 'Cefn Sidan' above - and then spent ten days at Tything Barn in July.

Tything Barn - N51.7116° W4.8452° -  is a twenty-three acre site about seven miles roughly north-west of Tenby in Pembrokeshire. There are several camping fields and two large lagoons, with islands that can be explored. When we were there many of the camping pitches had electricity points. There are also two cottages attached to the main house and two wooden cabins set among trees. One of these has superb views out over the estuary.

While at Tything Barn we visited Carew Castle - N51.6969° W4.8286° -  which is only a few miles from the site, and Tenby - which, after our home town, is probably our favourite town in the whole land.

We also discovered Yerbeston Gate Farm Shop - N51.7473° W4.7948° - which produces the most delicious steak that we have ever tasted, before or since; quite a statement!  The farm breeds Welsh Black cattle and the meat is hung in the traditional way to develop the flavour.

In 2008 we holidayed in one of the cottages at Tything Barn, bought some more Yerbeston steak and - wondering if the romance of the first holiday in our caravan, the good weather and the open-air barbecuing had enhanced the flavour - found that it in January and cooked indoors it was still just as delicious.  Before leaving we bought a box of meat to take home with us and have since taken advantage of their nationwide delivery service and had two more boxes delivered to home.

For stocking up the cupboards there are a Waitrose, a Budgens, an M&S Foods and a Lidl in Monmouth, about five miles north, and a large Tesco in Chepstow, about eight miles south.

There are no rubbish disposal facilities at WSF, but there is a municipal recycling depot on the outskirts of Monmouth.

It was as a result of a conversation with another member that this website came to be.
