Western Sunfolk - 2002 >>>

This is our home site.  We first visited Western Sunfolk with a Suntreckers rally in 2002 and liked it so much that we visited several times in the following few years, before finally joining at the start of 2009.

For stocking up the cupboards there are a Waitrose, a Budgens, an M&S Foods and a Lidl in Monmouth, about five miles north, and a large Tesco in Chepstow, about eight miles south.

There are no rubbish disposal facilities at WSF, but there is a municipal recycling depot on the outskirts of Monmouth.

It was as a result of a conversation with another member that this website came to be.

Birthday Celebrations

In 2015, Western Sunfolk celebrated their 80th birthday.

During the afternoon of July 11th around 170 members, former members and guests enjoyed a variety of sideshows and games.

Later everyone sat down to some entertainment and a delicious meal that had been prepared by a team of members and featured the pork that had been roasting all day, thanks to one intrepid member who was up at 0600 to start the cooking.

Western Sunfolk is a naturist club in South Wales, not far from the Wye Valley.  There are around sixty static caravans owned by some of the members and about a dozen camping/caravanning pitches with 6 amp electric hook-ups.  There is a large pavilion with kitchen, a smaller teenagers' pavilion, two service blocks with free showers and washing up facilities, a heated, covered swimming pool, two miniten courts, a volleyball court, two boule courts and a children's play area.

Non-members are welcome to visit for a day or longer, but entry to the grounds is subject to pre-booking, which can be done through the club website.  The location of the site will be given to bona fide visitors after they have booked.

You will know that you've arrived when you see the friendly Welsh Dragon on the gate.  Once inside, the Welcome logo in its little bed of flowers faces you as you drive to reception.

Punchbowl Lake - 2018

Punchbowl Lake - 2018

We discovered Punchbowl Lake in the Wild Guide to Wales - one of the excellent series of Wild Guides that began with Wild Swimming and Wild Swimming Coast. The lake is not a designated naturist area but, with discretion, can be used for nude swimming and sunbathing.

The lake is about two miles southwest of Abergavenny, nestling in a natural bowl in the foothills of Blorenge. The closest place to park is near the cattle grid at N51.7950 W3.0474. From here a path diverges from the road through a gate and leads down through trees to the lake. The path starts fairly level but then descends steeply to the lake.

On the day that we visited there was no one else there so we had a nude stroll around the lake but, as the water looked rather murky, we didn't fancy a swim. We were able to walk nude back to the car and then explored the path up to Blorenge for a short way.

River Usk, Llanfihangel Gobion - 2018

This was another site that we discovered in the Wild Guide to Wales. This part of the river is also not a designated naturist area but, with discretion, can be used for nude swimming and sunbathing.

Llanfihangel Gobion is a tiny hamlet about four miles southeast of Abergavenny. About a third of a mile south of the hamlet is a bridge over the River Usk and about ninety yards south of that is a wide gateway entrance at N51.7742° W2.9456° with room for a couple of cars parked sensibly.

To get to the swimming spot walk back to the bridge and just before it is a footpath to the left, through a curious hinged stile. Once out of sight of the house to the left it is possible to do the rest of the walk nude. The best swimming spot is about half a mile from the bridge but there is a steep bank down to the water. The water varies in depth up to over six feet.
